Self reflection on KMS & project experience

It was an enjoyable experience researching on the enterprise search engine companies. I didn't know that there are search engines specially for enterprise solely. This has brought me in depth of the background and what makes a good enterprise search engine. We started with nothing in our wiki page and have things like enterprise search engines' background, comparison, the company we are engaged with by the end of the semester. All nicely decorated and linked page to page.

Although we did not manage to update the last bit of information into out wiki page, I feel that our page is nicely organized and the presentation was quite nicely done. We've put in our 100% effort in the presentation, viewing the demo and researching on what makes a good enterprise search engine for the benefits of enterprises. Also, what benefits it will do to the case company.

I feel that I've learnt much about how knowledge is managed and passed on from one another. How a collaboration tool is made and used in our school student portal and we did a small competition with the other class in managing a portal with stuff that were made by us.

tacit knowledge that will be valuable to an organisation

SECI is a model that shows how knowledge is transferred.

Socialization is from tacit to tacit, which means it's not known to all. Only the internal people knows about it. Externalization is from tacit to explicit. Internal information is then sent to the people outside the organization. Combination is explicit to explicit, making a known fact to all. Internalization is explicit to tacit, gathering information to inside the organization.

An example of a Externalization knowledge transfer will be through this blog. I can share what I learnt and what I think of the terms to the public just by typing in here and sharing the knowledge.

How tacit knowledge will benefit an organization?

Staff can blog about problems that they faced in work and helpline, so that when in future, other staff who encounters the same problem will just have to look through the archive of the blog to look for the solution. And with labels so easily in used nowadays, they can group their problems accordingly. This will save time and space for the company; staff will not need to keep asking and seniors will not need to keep answering the questions which are similar and no hardcopy need to be made.
